Finally! A change in the weather

It goes without saying that this winter has been unseasonably warm and dry. This weekend the ridge will break down. A long wave trough will bring with it some cold air and hopefully a little snow to the mountains.
From this mornings forecast discussion
BOTTOM LINE...COLDER ACROSS THE AREA WITH UNSETTLED CONDITIONS
REMAINING POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY SATURDAY. SIGNIFICANT PRECIP IS NOT
LIKELY BUT MOST AREAS ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA SHOULD SEE LIGHT
AMOUNTS OVER THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. DRYING TREND EARLY NEXT WEEK BUT
REMAINING SEASONALLY COOLER THAN WHATS BEEN NOTED OF LATE.
NAM forecast for 11:00 PM Friday night.

Peach Tree

It was an unusually warm President's Day weekend. Our family took advantage of the lack of snow and worked in the yard. Sadly, we voted to remove our peach tree. Over the years it had produced hundred of quarts of peaches. The tree was about fifteen years old and in a very unhealthy state. After removing the tree we planted a new one in it's place. Hopefully we'll have a large harvest again soon.

Finally, some February flakes

This was a quick moving storm. A moment ago you couldn't see the mountain, now the clouds are getting funneled up the canyon. Still, not much new snow on the mountain. Looks like it just dusted the trees.

The Computer made the weather

Here's a look at the supercomputers we work on at the University of Utah's Center for High Performance Computing. Weather models are run on these computers for research. Weather models help us understand how the earth's atmosphere changes and creates our daily weather.
